as

Angie Palmer, Founder

Angie Palmer has a passion about green living and business practices, believing that human race has the responsibility to be the steward of the earth.  It does not mean that we are in charge of the planet, but it means that we need to help manage the resources of the earth so we will not deplete the resources for other living things and our future generation.  She recycles, composts, makes soy milk, drives a hybrid car, uses cloth bags and grows organic vegetables in her backyard, among other personal green efforts.

During her PhD course on organizational psychology, she realized that many social problems can be solved by awareness and education.   In 2009, she decided to start a local green group to provide a platform and networking opportunity for people who want to live a better life.  The group was originally hosted on meetup.com.  After much consideration, Angie moved the group from meetup.com to an independent website for flexibility in content.  The group now has over 150 members on the Facebook page.

Bethany George, Organizer

Bethany has always had a love for all of God’s creation.  Because of this she has continually sought to live better and greener from an early age.  She grew up in Newark, but in 2002 she moved to northern California with her husband and her only child at the time.  For the year that she was there many new concepts were introduced to her, such as organic foods and cooking from scratch. When she moved back to Ohio she started digging to learn more. She presently has three children. The whole family is learning how to grow their own food, compost, recycle and anything else that is both environmentally friendly and cost efficient.  Her future goals are to replace much of her lawn with self-sufficient, attractive and native plant life.  The idea of homesteading is very appealing as a future goal as well.

Assistant Organizers

We have four additional organizers (in alphabetical order) who signed up with us in January 2010! Their bios and pics will be posted soon.

  • Eriyah Flynn

Eriyah took her first human nutrition course in spring of 1994 and fell in love with the subject. Being born and raised in California, and having traveled overseas in Europe while serving in the US Air Force, she was also instilled with a heightened consciousness for environmental concern, respect for life and sustainable living. She has been passionately pursuing all things healthy, sustainable and compassionate ever since. Eriyah moved to Ohio in 1998, has worked for The Ohio State University Medical Center, The State of Ohio Attorney General’s Office on the Alternative Energy Task Force and has become a Certified Wellness Facilitator for the Wellness Forum. Her mission is to help people make the connection of how diet connects to human health, the environment and peace for all earthlings. She has partnered up with Ohio Green Specialists in sharing sustainable strategies to Ohioans who are interested in how to live consciously in alignment with their values.

  • Keith Palmer

Keith believes investing in green is the right way to go, not only at a consumer level but at corporate and government level.  After moving to Newark, Ohio he was disappointed when the city or county did not have a recycling pick up service.  He feels the only way to get these larger organizations to move into the green realm is demand by the populace.  Educating the community to raise awareness of how easy and healthy it is, is one reason Keith decided to join Ohio Green Specialists.  With the economy in its present condition, Keith also feels jobs in sustainable green business ventures could fill the void on unemployment we face today.    Recently Keith changed his diet to mostly vegetarian for better health and is working towards full vegetarian and full vegan in the future.  After a tremendous drop of almost 100 off his previous cholesterol levels, he’s exploring other green living ideas to share with the community.   Keith has worked for the Air Force for 25 years and has obtained his Bachelor’s of Science in Business Quality Management and is working on his Master’s of Science in Quality Management.  He states “The most important quality is the quality of life improvements you can make by exploring and adopting a green living approach.”

  • Roy Sabo
  • BettyAnn Zimmerman

BettyAnn Zimmerman lives in Newark, Ohio and has three children with her husband of 17 years.  She became interested in green and natural living after the birth of her second child and wanted to remain as a homemaker.  In order to financially attain these goals, she discovered cloth diapering and that was the beginning for her exploration into green and frugal living.  Her household now uses all cloth and reusable products as well as natural cleaners and treatments around the home that are much safer for her children and good for the environment as well.  She also has a garden the produces 2/3 of her groceries every spring, summer, and autumn and has plans to expand the garden to provide 100% of vegetables and some fruits for her family.  Her long term goals are to live off the grid and be self sustaining.
